Deontay Malone's 73-yard catch tied it in the fourth quarter, but Cornerstone Christian won 35-21, Massillon's first loss. Fifteen of 18 class schools won.
Wyatt Smith blocked Chaminade-Madonna's go-ahead field goal with 1:23 left, and St. Thomas Aquinas won 21-20 in the week's meeting of two schools with Ohio State 2027 pledges. Nine of the 14 class schools that played on October 2 won.
Fourteen of the 18 high schools carrying an Ohio State 2027 pledge won on September 25, and none lost. Jamier Brown caught a 16-yard touchdown pass in Wayne's 49-24 win at Northmont, and Millbrook's game with Rolesville stopped at 10-10 with its overtime not yet played.
Sixteen of the 18 high schools carrying an Ohio State 2027 pledge played on September 17 or 18, and 14 won. Massillon beat St. Edward 23-21 when Malone broke up a Hail Mary on the final play, and Jamier Brown scored twice in Wayne's overtime win.
Sixteen of the 18 high schools carrying an Ohio State 2027 pledge played on September 10 or 11, and 13 of them won. Five won by shutout, Jamier Brown scored three times in Wayne's first win, and Eli Johnson's Steele tied Lake Travis 28-28 when lightning stopped the game.
Luke Sohyda of Canon-McMillan pledged to the Buckeyes on Tuesday, three days after standing in the Ohio Stadium crowd for the opener. He is the fifth commit of the 2028 class and the first man on that board no service has ranked, which is a different kind of first from the one the 2027 room is still waiting on.
The Oviedo, Florida three-star picked the Buckeyes on June 27, a month after the offer arrived. Eleven Warriors named the next two targets that same afternoon: Monshun Sales chose Indiana on July 17, and Benny Easter Jr. is still pledged to Texas Tech.
The 2028 five-star from St. John's Prep chose the Buckeyes on Saturday. He is the No. 1 quarterback in the class to Rivals and to the 247Sports composite, the No. 2 on 247Sports' own board, and somewhere between 6-4 and 6-5 depending on who measured him.
The Buckeyes went back to Jackson for the first top-100 offensive lineman from outside Ohio to pick them since 2021. Eleven Warriors counted Moss as the second Mississippian in program history, and the 1990 Ohio State media guide gives the first one a name, a position and a hometown: Craig Robinson, tight end, Jackson, one season.
The 247Sports composite had him No. 400 the day he pledged. It has him No. 1087 now, and a second reading on September 10 found the fall has stopped. The scouting report on his own player page is still dated a month before the commitment and has never been replaced, which means the number moved without anyone changing their mind about him.
Rivals calls him the No. 5 interior offensive lineman in the country. In the same article, Rivals says the industry has him 221 spots lower overall. Eight months after he committed, the services still do not agree on what he plays or how good he is.
Ohio State's 2027 quarterback left his UCLA official visit thinking he was going to be a Bruin. Two weeks later his father texted him from a hotel lounge in Columbus, and he says the answer was yes right there. He did not say it publicly until July 23.
The four-star from Huntington Beach spent his summer weighing a flip to UCLA. He says he is staying and plans to sign with Ohio State in December, a day after the class lost its top running back target.
He chose the Buckeyes over Auburn and Georgia, and filled the last hole in the best defensive line haul since 2021. By his own account he was going to Georgia before he visited Columbus.
Three days after Eleven Warriors called him the only uncommitted tight end holding an Ohio State offer, Johnson committed to Ole Miss. The 2027 class still has no tight end, and now it has nobody left to sign.
Five new commits in a month of official visits pushed the Buckeyes to 18, headlined by the nation's No. 1 defensive end. Here is the full board, who is still out there, and who got away.
Caden Moss on Friday, Marcus Fakatou over Georgia and Texas on Monday. Inside the best trench-recruiting stretch of the Ryan Day era.
