No. 1 Miami beat Pittsburgh 52-23 at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday, October 24. Three players who have promised to play for Ohio State were reported in the building, and on Thursday one of them became the subject of a 247Sports piece about whether Miami can still get him.

None of the three has decommitted. Nothing on the board changes today. This is a story about who was where, who reported it, and what the reporting does and does not say.

Who was there, and who said so

Quinton Cypher, the 2027 linebacker from Millbrook in Raleigh, North Carolina. Corey Long of Canes Warning had him first, in a piece published twenty minutes after the noon kickoff:

“We’ve already touched on DJ Jacobs, the five-star EDGE, who is at Hard Rock Stadium this weekend, but the Ohio State commit is not alone. As a matter of fact, his potential future teammate, Quinton Cypher, is also in the house.”

On Thursday 247Sports’ Anna Adams confirmed it from the other side: “Miami got Cypher on campus for an unofficial visit last weekend when the top-ranked team in the country beat Pittsburgh.”

DJ Jacobs, the 2027 edge rusher from Blessed Trinity Catholic in Roswell, Georgia. Long’s sentence above puts him there during the game. Ric Butler of Rocky Top Insider, a Tennessee site, wrote on Wednesday that “Jacobs was just in Miami last weekend to watch the Hurricanes’ 52-23 win over Pittsburgh.”

Elijah Newman-Hall, the 2028 running back from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. 247Sports’ Zach Blostein spoke to him that evening, and the free part of the piece carries his own words:

“It was cool. When we [first] went, it was a totally different experience from last time because last time we didn’t really get to see a game. So we actually got to see the stadium and viewpoint of Miami. Overall, it was a good visit, and we were able to see what we wanted to see.”

On3’s Alex Gleitman also counted “a trio of Ohio State commitments who made visits to Miami last weekend” in a subscriber piece on Tuesday. The names are behind On3’s paywall, and we have not read them. The three names above come from the free reporting, not from On3.

Why Cypher is the one with a story this week

Adams’ piece is headlined “Latest on longtime Ohio State Top247 LB commit Quinton Cypher following his visit to Miami”, and its opening is plain about why it exists: Cypher “committed to Ohio State over Miami last December. However, the Hurricanes haven’t stopped recruiting the 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker.”

The record backs that up. Cypher’s 247Sports timeline, read on Friday morning, shows an unofficial visit to Miami on September 20, 2025, a final four of Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia and Miami on December 14, 2025, and his commitment to Ohio State five days later. Long writes that Miami offered him in January 2025 and that Saturday was his second trip there. The timeline’s newest entry is still his official visit to Ohio State on June 12, 2026; it has not logged Saturday yet.

Adams also writes that 247Sports “spoke with Quinton’s father this week for the latest on his son’s recruitment and status as a Buckeyes commitment.” What his father said is in the subscriber part of the piece. We have not read it, so we are not going to characterise it in either direction.

The night before the visit, Millbrook won at Wakefield 59-0, per the school’s MaxPreps schedule.

Jacobs has been here before, and so has this site

Saturday is the third trip of Jacobs’ senior fall to somebody else’s stadium that this site has reported. He was in Sanford Stadium for Georgia on September 12 and in Neyland Stadium for Tennessee against Texas on September 26. Miami is not a new name either: when Land-Grant Holy Land argued in September that keeping Jacobs was Ohio State’s top recruiting priority, it named the Hurricanes and the Volunteers as the two programs still working.

His 247Sports timeline, read on Friday, still lists Georgia on September 12 as its newest event. Neither the Tennessee trip nor the Miami trip is on it. That log has been behind every one of his fall visits, which is why we date them from the reporting rather than from the log.

What this does not mean

A committed player watching a game somewhere else is not a decommitment, and none of the reporting above says that any of the three has wavered publicly. Canes Warning, which covers Miami, frames the whole weekend as the Hurricanes “targeting some major flips to close out the 2027 class.” That is Miami’s intent, stated by a Miami site. It is not a report of anybody’s decision.

All three are still on Ohio State’s boards today: Jacobs and Cypher on the 2027 board, Newman-Hall on the 2028 board. If that changes, it will be reported here with two outlets, the same way this was.
