Ohio State’s 2027 class is 19 commitments spread over 18 high schools, because St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale has two of them. On Thursday, September 10, and Friday, September 11, sixteen of those schools played. Thirteen won, two lost, and one game did not finish.
This is the week put together from the places it was actually recorded: each school’s own MaxPreps schedule page for the final scores, the local reporters who wrote up the two games below by name, and the season totals coaches entered on MaxPreps afterward.
A note on the calendar before the numbers. The Dayton Daily News files these games under Week 4, and the Austin American-Statesman files the same Friday under Week 3. This story says “the week of September 11” and means both.
The scores
Every final below is the school’s own MaxPreps schedule page, as it read on Saturday, September 12. These are TEAM results. A school’s win is not a claim that its commit played, and where we know he did, a section below says so and names who reported it.
Won (13):
- Blessed Trinity Catholic (DJ Jacobs) won 55-33 at Lambert and is 4-0.
- Wayne (Jamier Brown) won 42-26 at Springboro and is 1-3.
- Sierra Canyon (Marcus Fakatou) beat Saint Louis 52-0 on Thursday and is 3-0.
- Liberty Center (Kellen Wymer) beat Swanton 66-0 and is 4-0.
- St. Thomas Aquinas (Wyatt Smith and Jaden Carey) won 49-0 at Dillard on Thursday and is 4-0.
- Ramsay (Karlos May) won 39-0 at Chelsea and is 3-1.
- Huntington Beach (Brady Edmunds) won 28-14 at Redondo Union on Thursday and is 4-0.
- Massillon Washington (Deontay Malone) beat Canisius 42-0 and is 4-0.
- Central Catholic (Jimmy Kalis) beat Pine-Richland 48-24 and is 3-0.
- Bishop Watterson (Davis Seaman) beat Glenville 35-13 and is 4-0.
- Godwin (Brody McNeel) beat Atlee 23-21 and is 2-1.
- Oviedo (Jordan Donahoo) beat Melbourne 48-24 on Thursday and is 2-2.
- Chaminade-Madonna (Angelo Smith) beat True North Classical Academy 42-30 on Thursday and is 3-1.
Lost (2):
- Blue Springs South (Prince Goldsby) lost 38-17 at home to Blue Springs and is 1-2.
- St. Clairsville (Mason Wilt) lost 32-29 at The Linsly School and is 0-4.
Tied (1):
- Cibolo Steele (Eli Johnson) and Lake Travis, 28-28. Steele is 1-1-1.
Did not play: Jackson Academy (Caden Moss), 4-0, and Millbrook (Quinton Cypher), 3-0. Neither school’s schedule lists a game that week. Jackson Academy hosts Hartfield Academy on September 18 and Millbrook is at Athens Drive the same night.
Five of the 13 wins were shutouts: Liberty Center, Sierra Canyon, St. Thomas Aquinas, Massillon Washington and Ramsay. And after the week, ten of the 18 schools have not lost a game. Those ten carry eleven of the nineteen commitments.
The tie nobody chose
Steele’s game is the one on the list that needs a sentence of explanation, and Caleb Yum of the Austin American-Statesman supplied it. Lightning was spotted within 10 miles of Lehnhoff Stadium with 4 minutes and 43 seconds left in the third quarter. After about 30 minutes, Yum writes, “officials ruled the game a tie; the weather’s severity had increased, and parts of the stadium lost power.”
Steele had led 28-21 at halftime. Lake Travis tied it on a drive Yum calls “the last points of the day.” Then Steele moved inside the Lake Travis 40 and went for it on fourth-and-one, and Lake Travis forced a fumble and recovered it. “In hindsight,” Yum writes, “it was a game-saving play.” His piece does not mention Johnson, and so neither does this one, beyond the fact that it was his school’s game.
The one commit whose night was written up by name
Jamier Brown is the one 2027 pledge whose Friday has a bylined line, and it is a good one. Travis Erickson of the Dayton Daily News:
“Brown tallied six catches for 120 yards and three touchdowns, with all three TDs coming after ’Boro had scored to cut into the Wayne lead.”
It was the Greater Western Ohio Conference opener for both teams and Wayne’s first win of the season, after an opening run Erickson describes as “a grueling out-of-conference slate against Fairfield, St. Xavier and Lakewood St. Edward.” One detail for anyone checking our work against his: Erickson’s lede prints the final as 41-26, and Wayne’s MaxPreps page carries 42-26. The list above uses the schedule page, and nothing in Erickson’s account of Brown depends on the extra point.
Michael Cooper, in the same paper’s Week 4 takeaways, did the season arithmetic: “After missing the first two games of the due to suspension, he’s caught 12 passes for 277 yards and five TDs.” (The missing word is his, not ours.) Brown has played two games since the two-game suspension ended, and he has scored in both.
The coach-entered lines that moved
Four more commits have season totals that their coaches updated on MaxPreps after this week’s game. These are running totals, not single-game lines, and each one is only as current as the stamp MaxPreps prints on it.
- Brady Edmunds, through four games (stamped September 11): 57 of 82 for 827 yards, 11 touchdowns and two interceptions.
- Jordan Donahoo, through four games (stamped September 11): 13 catches for 317 yards and two touchdowns.
- Marcus Fakatou, through three games (stamped September 11): 14 tackles, five for loss, and two sacks.
- DJ Jacobs, through four games (stamped September 13): six tackles, one for loss, and two sacks.
Every current-season line we have printed, bylined or coach-entered, is gathered on one page at The players’ own stat lines, and the full schedule for every school, including who plays whom on Friday, September 18, is on /season. The class itself, all nineteen names with the reporting behind each, is on the board.
