On Friday night, October 23, Wayne trailed Centerville 38-14 at halftime and won 63-60. The Dayton Daily News’ Travis Erickson credits Jamier Brown, the longest-standing pledge in Ohio State’s 2027 class, with 10 catches for 224 yards and two touchdowns, the second of them the score that put Wayne ahead.
How the comeback went
Everything in this section is from Erickson’s recap. Centerville’s A.J. Taylor ran for four touchdowns, and the Elks led by 24 at the break. In the third quarter Wayne quarterback Kye Graham scrambled for two touchdowns. Centerville answered with a 75-yard fumble return by Chase Carlson and a 66-yard touchdown pass from Alex Keely to Josh Walker.
Then Brown. At the end of the third quarter Graham found him for a 25-yard touchdown that made it 52-49. In the fourth, Graham hit him again from 20 yards out, and Wayne had the lead. Erickson does not walk through the rest of the fourth quarter, so neither do we.
Graham finished 25 of 31 for 489 yards and four touchdown passes, and ran for 58 yards and two more scores. Akim Shabazz ran for 92 yards and three touchdowns. Erickson puts Wayne’s night at 658 yards. Writing up the week, the paper’s sports editor, Michael Cooper, added the number Centerville will remember: 63 points is the most any team has ever scored against the Elks.
Where Wayne’s season stands
When Brown played his first game of 2026 on September 4, after serving a two-game suspension, Wayne lost to Lakewood St. Edward and was 0-3 (our report). Friday was its sixth win in seven games, Erickson writes. The Warriors finished the regular season 6-4, and 6-1 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference, second in the league. Wayne’s MaxPreps page, which this site reads into its season tracker, shows the same score and the same record.
Cooper lists Wayne among the area teams with a first-round bye in the OHSAA playoffs, which begin Friday, October 30. His paper’s note on that list says the pairings are unofficial until the association announces them on Sunday.
Why it matters to Ohio State
Brown has been committed to Ohio State since November 23, 2024, longer than anyone else in the class, and he and Jordan Donahoo are its two receivers as of October 24. His senior season began with a two-game suspension and an 0-3 record. Friday was the other kind of night. Every line we have printed for him and the rest of the class is on the players’ own stat lines, and the class itself, with the reporting behind each name, is on the board.
