Six days ago this site wrote that Jordan Hall was committed to Miami of Ohio and coming to Columbus on Saturday. Half of that is no longer true.
Hall decommitted from the RedHawks on Thursday, September 3. The Cincinnati Enquirer’s Dave Clark reported it that day, Buckeye Sports Bulletin’s Greg Wilson posted it at 4:04 that afternoon, and 247Sports’ own timeline on Hall’s player page now carries an event stamped Sep 3, 2026: Jordan Hall decommits from Miami (OH) RedHawks. Land-Grant Holy Land’s Caleb Houser followed on Friday morning. That is three outlets and the database, and they agree.
The Enquirer published the statement. Hall wrote that his family had decided to decommit, that “the coaches and players have been great to us and the experience on campus was phenomenal,” and that “we think it’s best to approach the remainder of my final season decommitted while we make a final decision in the winter.”
Read that last clause literally, because it is the only piece of forward guidance anybody has: the decision is a winter decision. National Signing Day is not this month.
The visit is still on
Nothing in any of the three reports moves the trip. Hall is expected in Ohio Stadium on Saturday, September 5 for the Ball State opener, which kicks at 12:30 p.m. on Big Ten Network per Ohio State’s schedule. Houser’s story is built around exactly that sequence: he calls Hall an in-state back who “reopens recruitment ahead of Ohio State visit.”
And the thing this site said last week has not changed either. Ohio State has not offered him. Houser says it plainly, adding that it “could very well change sooner rather than later,” and 247Sports’ page still lists eight offers with the Buckeyes not among them. The Enquirer’s story names a longer list than the database does, Florida Atlantic, Marshall, Austin Peay and Army among them. Neither version has Ohio State on it.
So the shape of Saturday is unchanged and the stakes are higher. A committed recruit visiting a school that has not offered him is a courtesy. An uncommitted recruit visiting a school that has not offered him is a decision waiting on one phone call from Carlos Locklyn.
One thing this settles, and it is a date
Last week’s story left a question open on purpose. 247Sports carried two different dates for the Miami commitment on the same page, a header stamp reading June 4 and a timeline event reading June 7, and this site refused to pick one without a second outlet.
Buckeye Sports Bulletin picked one. Wilson’s story says Hall had been committed to Miami since June 7, which is the timeline event and not the header stamp. That is the second source the board was waiting for, so the board now says June 7 and stops hedging.
One thing it unsettles, and it is a number
Every story published about Hall this week files him at No. 1,181 nationally and No. 88 among running backs in the 247Sports Composite. Buckeye Sports Bulletin runs those figures. Land-Grant Holy Land runs them. This board carried the same No. 1,181 from its own reading of his player page on August 29.
His player page does not say that today. Read on Friday, September 4, the block headed 247SPORTS COMPOSITE reads 0.8744, No. 847 nationally, No. 60 among running backs, No. 32 in Ohio, over three stars. On August 29 the same block read 0.8650 and No. 1,181. Somewhere in those six days the composite moved him up 334 spots.
This is not a correction of anybody. A ranking is a live number and a published story is a dated artifact, which is why every figure on this site carries the day it was read. It is worth saying out loud only because the number in circulation this week is a week old, and the direction it moved is the opposite of what a decommitment story usually implies.
The board now carries the new one, dated September 4. He is still a three-star, and he is still, by a wide margin, ranked below the back Ohio State actually spent this cycle chasing.
What the board says now
The board has changed one row. Jordan Hall is no longer a flip target. He is an uncommitted target: RB, 5-10.5 and 205 pounds, three stars, No. 847 nationally, Princeton in Cincinnati, nobody’s commitment.
The room he would walk into is still empty. Ohio State has nineteen commitments in the 2027 class and none of them is a running back, and it has been that way since David Gabriel Georges chose Tennessee on July 22. The only other running back the Buckeyes are chasing in this class is Nigel Newkirk, who has been pledged to Alabama since June 1 and who shut his recruitment down when he committed.
That is the whole board at the position: one Alabama pledge who says he is done, and one Cincinnati senior who is now free, is in the building on Saturday, and does not have an offer.
What would settle this
The same thing that would have settled it last week, with one difference. Last week an offer from Locklyn would have started a flip. This week it would start a recruitment, against a field that adds a school every few days and a decision Hall says he will make in the winter.
If the offer comes, this site will report it and date it. If it does not, the 2027 running back room is still empty, the plan is still an Alabama commit who is not listening, and the winter Hall is pointing at is a long way from September.
